More and more back pain sufferers are coming into hospitals around the country. While this is one of the leading causes of emergency room visits for adults, people sometimes do not look at the numbers for the youth in our hospitals. Many kids under 18 are coming into emergency rooms complaining of back and neck pain.

It is for this reason that it is hard to treat on a general level. When however people have a specific problem or the doctors know what is wrong, there can be effective treatment. Most times however it can take a person a long time to get to this point. By the time they have x-rays, MRIs, or a doctor finally determines that they know what the problem is, the patient will have suffered through months of discomfort.

The medication that is given to patients for this, both young and old, carries with it a very bad stigma because of how some people have treated the medication. There are people who have abused the narcotic medication and even lied about back pain so they can get the medication. When this happens and it becomes a nationwide issue it makes it difficult for those really suffering.

Doctors today are very cautious about prescribing this medication today because they cannot be sure that the patient really needs it. With an ailment such as this it can be hard to determine if they are really dealing with what they claim. It is not like a broken bone where they can see the break and know definitively what is wrong.

When they do this it can turn out bad most times. Even for people who actually need the operation. They often have more discomfort after having the procedure than before. They just do not have anybody to talk to who has been through this before. So they have no frame of reference or no one with experience to guide them.

There are still options that remain for sufferers however. It is just a matter of people sometimes having an open mind. This can be difficult though for some people because having an open mind is hard. It is much easier for people to remain closed minded and stubborn. People always like to take the easy way out for everything they do.

All of that because people started to abuse the medications. Back pain continues to be a problem for millions of people. It does not matter how many people lie about it to get drugs, there are still many people who are truly suffering and now they have a much harder time because a few people want to get high.
