How Glioblastoma Progression Is Halted By Technology

By Rob Sutter

Glioblastoma treatments are difficult to come by, partially because of how complicated they are. Nonetheless, people continue to conduct research in order to make this cure-finding process a bit easier. With the greater number of findings that we uncover, however, there seems to be further methods in the way of therapy. One of them has recently come about and it seems like it's a marvel as to how far technology has come as time seemed to progress and we continued to grow in that sense.

On the website of the Daily of the University of Washington, an article was posted about the usage of a brain cap. Basically, this would be used in order to control tumor growth seen in patients. For those who crave more complexity, though, this cap utilizes electrical fields in order to take control of tumors in terms of how they progress. While this is still in early stages, this treatment has since been dubbed as NovoTTF and it appears as though there's potential for this method.

There doesn't seem to be negative impacts that come from this cap but there are a few instances which deserve to be mentioned. One of them is the aspect of skin irritation. While this may be confusing for a number of people, you have to consider the idea that this cap has to be worn for long stretches of time, 18 hours each day at the least. Prolonged exposure to heat can also come about and that is another effect which researchers can cite.

This cap isn't meant to bring an end to tumors; it is a way to moderate the growth of them so that they do not expand at terribly great levels. Glioblastoma tumors will be helped thanks to this cap and I hope that more results come about because of this. Treatment will most likely be helped thanks to this and the lives of patients are going to be made easier as well. With organizations such as Voices Against Brain Cancer focusing on these stories and others, exposure to said stories will come.

Glioblastoma tumors some of the most common but the fact that they are aggressive, growing quickly than others, is easily one of the most detrimental factors about them. Keep in mind that it's possible for these tumors to be controlled. This is the goal of this brain cap and I believe it's an indication of how far we have come in the ways of technology. Hopefully this instance of technology continues on so that we may be able to find further therapy methods on the matter.
