Brain Tumors & Potential Utilization of Body Fat

By Rob Sutter

I think that we have been told since our first days on this world that eating healthy is one of the most important things to do. Foods which have cholesterol and calories for days, in essence, are the ones that we should steer clear from or consume in moderation. Body fat is something we all have and for better or worse it serves a number of purposes. As far as better is concerned, I think that we're slowly discovering that fat can be utilized to bring down brain tumors.

Voice of America spoke about this in an article, which said that the stem cells from a patient's body fat could possibly be used to treat the cancer that brain tumors are associated with. This is something which is still in the early stages but I think that the amount of potential seen is quite great. The tumor spoke about in the article is glioblastoma, which is regarded as the most aggressive kind in existence. I could easily organizations on the matter - such as V.A.B.C. - speak about it.

One of the common ways that this condition is helped is through surgery but even then there is not anything that says this is concrete all-around. Basically, there are other methods which people can utilize and they may not be as invasive as your typical form of surgery. It's sad to say that there isn't a solid cure set in place yet for this condition but I think that it can change. This story could potentially be one of the catalysts of the change in question as well.

According to the aforementioned article, lab tests were conducted, utilizing these stem cells in tandem with the cancer cells. While some findings showed great promise, I think that there is still a degree of mystery to be seen. It may not be known yet as to why stem cells actively seek them out, though the way the cancer cells are brought down is clear. Basically, the cells from fat let out a substance to bring down the aggression of tumors and it's possible that they can be engineered to cure patients in the future.

I can only hope that this theory expands as time goes on. As it stands, it's currently being tested on animals which are afflicted and humans being tested won't occur until three to five years down the road. This is what the story had detailed and I think that this kind of research possesses a great deal of potential. Maybe those who are passionate about research of brain tumors will want to give their support to it more so than they ever did before.
