How Motorcyclists are Helping Brain Cancer Awareness

By Rob Sutter

A group of motorcyclists have taken up a group in Florida. While you may be assuming the worst right now, just know that these particular riders have a similar goal in mind to help others. In short, they are doing work for brain cancer. This might be shocking to a good number of you, but these very people in this very state have taken their hobby to a more helpful degree, raising awareness for this debilitating disease that can plague anyone, children included.

This past Sunday, a group of motorcyclists have gathered in Lithia to raise money, as well as awareness, towards the fight against pediatric brain cancer. This wouldn't be the first movement where people have gathered for a similar cause, either. In fact, organizations such as VABC have helped to bring people together with a similar goal in mind and it seems like this has resonated with others. I have to believe that the efforts of other organizations have created a snowball effect to the point where others have assembled their own movements.

A good number of these riders are parents whose kids have been stricken with brain cancer. Fortunately, these children have been able to beat the disease, but there are still those who could not. This is partially what the ride is about. One child had been diagnosed with brain cancer at age two and, while she was able to beat it before she hit nine years old, people ride for those who may not stand a greater chance, which is why this movement has been effective.

You're probably wondering about the amount of money raised during this movement. Well, the initial goal of these bikers was to raise $40,000 during the ride this past Sunday. In a surprising turnout, the group managed to rake in $67 million and then some thanks to the help of riders around the world. To say that people believe strongly in this fight is an understatement and expectations have been absolutely shattered because of this.

On Sunday, brain cancer survivors wore red shirts. The children who donned these very shirts knew that others were suffering from this disease and would do whatever they could to help. It's uplifting to see people of all ages become so invested in a cause, and the turnout of the biker ride was exceedingly positive. More events like these should be held, because with so many people believing strongly in the fight against brain cancer, success seems to be a given.
